A special evening

Soaking in the Beltane Magic on Glastonbury Tor!

There was a real pull this year to properly acknowledge Beltane, that beautiful turning of the Wheel marking the true arrival of light and the blossoming of summer. And what better place to immerse myself in those vibrant energies than Glastonbury?

The Tor has always held a special kind of magic for me, a place where the veil feels thin and the whispers of ancient times are carried on the breeze.

Initially, I had this romantic notion of greeting the sunrise from the Tor's peak, but my dear partner, bless him, wasn't quite on board with the early start! I count myself lucky that he was happy to join me for the sunset celebrations. While his spiritual leanings differ from mine, he's always supportive of my passions, even if he drew the line at wearing an ivy crown (haha!). It was lovely to see so many others embracing the spirit of the day, with men adorned in leafy garlands and faces painted with the greens of the season.

As the sun began its descent, the atmosphere on the Tor was simply enchanting. A gentle hum of connection flowed between the gathered crowd, a mix of quiet contemplation and joyful anticipation. The rhythmic beat of a drum would occasionally rise and fall, grounding us in the present moment. The vibes were so incredibly chilled and peaceful; it felt like time stood still. Honestly, I just wished we could have lingered there for hours, soaking in that unique energy.

The experience has definitely cemented our plans to return for the Summer Solstice, although a little part of me wonders about making the pilgrimage to Stonehenge. I know it would be an incredible experience, but the thought of the inevitable crowds is a little daunting. Glastonbury, with its own powerful energy, feels like a more intimate and perhaps less chaotic way to honour those significant celestial moments.

One of the highlights of the evening for me was capturing some photos in my special dress and antler headdress. This dress holds such sentimental value – it was actually a bridesmaid dress from my sister's wedding, a whole 21 years ago! I was thrilled that it still fits perfectly. It felt so right to wear something with history and connection to such a meaningful occasion.

Being surrounded by like-minded people, all drawn to this sacred place to celebrate the turning of the year, was truly heartwarming. It reaffirmed the deep human need to connect with nature's cycles and honour these ancient traditions. Glastonbury during Beltane was an experience I won't soon forget, and I'm already looking forward to the next turn of the Wheel.
